12 Tone Music Publishing Presents:
A Tone Note® Music PlayLand, Thursday, June 16th
At the South Smithville Center,
2745 S. Smithville Road, Dayton, OH 45420

We want to thank you for joining globally-renowned music instructor and author of the Number One music method in the homeschool market, Mike Overly, and experiencing the amazing fun-filled family-friendly hour of music making -- Roots of Rhythm.

For many parents of homeschooled children, the beginning of a music program is a time of great expectation and great hopes, and perhaps even a little anxiety. Even in families where children have been exposed to some music instruction, perhaps from a relative or friend, learning music is seen as something difficult and foreign. Fortunately, with the Tone Note® Music Method, learning music is easy, fast and fun! Tone Note's Music PlayLand will present the first big step on this wonderful new path of music and show you what you need to know to travel this path successfully. This exciting new beginning will lead to a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

Rhythm is the oldest component of music and rhythm instruments areamong the oldest instruments in the world. In fact, one of the earliest cave painting pictures found in France shows a person playing rhythm sticks nearly 17,000 years ago! Humans have been using rhythm instruments in many aspects of their lives since the dawn of time, for example, in religious ritual, celebrations of all kinds, when dancing, marching armies to battle, or just simply for fun! So, whether you are clapping your hands, hitting two sticks together, stomping your feet on the ground, or playing a tree trunk like a drum, you are experiencing the joys of rhythm.

In the language of music, rhythm instruments are known as Percussion. There are many different percussion instruments found in all cultures around the world, some may be unfamiliar to you, like a tabla from India, while others are more familiar, like a snare drum or tambourine. The sound of these percussion instruments can be quite different, depending on size, shape and materials. However, no matter how different they may sound, for example a wooden marimba or a metal cymbal, they all belong to the same musical family of percussion rhythm instruments.

What kind of knowledge and skills can your child be expected to learn in a good music program? How can you help your child at home? These questions and more are clearly and completely answered by the Tone Note® Music Method and will be presented and discussed at the Tone Note® Music PlayLand. You will also participate and experience the success of playing music from the very beginning of rhythm. This approach will naturally and effortlessly lead your child to their first simple instrument of pitch ~ the recorder.

The Tone Note® Music Method is not a haphazard approach based on the opinion of an inexperienced music teacher who just starts somewhere and wanders aimlessly from lesson to lesson with no real goal in sight. The Tone Note® Music Method is a time tested response to the many requests for a music method that is based on fundamentally sound music principles. The Tone Note® Music Method is designed in a step-by-step connected manner that guarantees your child's musical success.

Mike Overly's unmatched perspective on music education has something for everyone from the amateur hobbyist to the serious professional player, as well as any music enthusiast who wants to come along for the ride. - Home EDucators Resource Directory
